In recent news, NFL Quarterback Tim Tebow's girlfriend, former Miss Universe (2012) Olivia Culpo, has dumped him. In a shady move wherein a close friend of the ex-girlfriend reveals, "[Tebow] was really into her. He was sending her love letters and cute notes and professing his love for her. She had to break up with him because she just couldn't handle it. He still hits her up, but she just can't deal with the sex thing. He's pretty adamant about it, I guess," (NY Daily News).
And while the liberal media is joining Culpo in attempts to hit her ex below the belt with article titles such as "Tim Tebow still can't find the end zone," (he was never looking for it!) if you ask me, Tebow's credibility just shot through the roof and I simply can't resist saying, "Ladies, he's single...!"
Why any of this is such an earth-shattering surprise to anyone, be it Culpo or the media or the world, is absolutely beyond me. Tebow has always taken a firm stance for godliness, righteousness, and celibacy. Christian Post recounts that way back in 2009, the then 21-year old openly proclaimed his abstinence.
"Yes, I am," Tebow answered during an SEC Media Day press conference when asked if he was a virgin. "I think you're stunned right now. You can't even ask a question. ... I was ready for that question, but I don't think y'all were."
So really, I don't have anything but "props" and congratulations for Tim Tebow. He lost an unneeded distraction and gained more respect from his loved ones and family and soon, I predict he'll have his full focus back. This handsome, ball-playing, Bible-toting, and abstinent man has more than enough fish in the pond to choose from. No doubt he's hurting now and heck, may even be a little embarrassed (he's human right?). But in the end, he'll be just fine, all the better for it, and he'll eventually find a Proverbs 31 Woman, who not only understands not only respects but shares his value system. And God bless them both! So really, my questions are for Ms. Olivia Culpo.
Did Olivia Not Pay Attention When They First Started Talking?
I can only imagine that with publicity respectively mocking and praising Tebow for his celibate stance since 2009, his celibacy was not a secret. Which leads me to imagine further that he would clearly communicate this at the beginning of any potential relationship. And if he didn't on the off chance that he presumed it was understood because they were both professing Christians, see my last sentence. So this makes me wonder if she was just tuning all of this out at the beginning of their relationship. Which is just not a smart thing to do in general.
Did Olivia Not Take Tebow's Stance for Holiness Seriously?
Now let's presume Olivia did hear Tim's stance. Did she just think he would drop the whole "sex thing" for her? Now, many a good man (and woman) has fallen in this department, and they are no less saved, just very, very human and perhaps, not as disciplined or steadfast in their stance as they thought they were. (I'm differentiating between those who have a genuine struggle and those who happily, willfully sin without regret or repentance.) But there are absolutely men and women who have either maintained their abstinence their whole life or have taken a positive turn towards abstinence later in life. Both of types of abstinence are to be admired and respected. I imagine that if Tim dated Olivia, then she professed to be a Christian. Then again, many people make that profession these days and don't mean too much by it, unfortunately.
Did Nick Jonas' Behaviour Play a Role in Olivia's Outlook on Tim?
I can't help but wonder if Olivia's recent relationship and subsequent breakup with the Jonas Brothers' Nick Jonas was the reason she didn't take Tim Tebow's stance for purity too seriously. Nick used to sport a purity ring, but after some time, finding "his truth," and obvious experimentation, decided it was no longer for him.
"This is a real growth in me and not something I'm doing anymore," he told HuffPost Live. "But I've got my set of values, things that are important to me now at this point in my life, and that's all that matters. I've had an incredibly intense journey with faith and religion and my own growth.
Jonas goes on to say, "My belief in God is still very strong and important to me as a person and I think that's all that should matter. I grew up in a church environment and still have love for the church."
With a new breed of "BuzzFeed 'Christians'" who think they can pick and choose which parts of God's Word they do and don't prefer to live by, Jonas' stance is no surprise to me. But unfortunately, I feel it often fuels reactions like Olivia's.

It's easy to just call Olivia Culpo a Delilah and go along our merry way, none of us really knows what she's been exposed to. We don't know if she has ever had any solid, Bible-living Christians in her life to show her the truth. Who knows whether or not Tebow was her only real, face-to-face exposure of that. And while there are obvious parallels between Olivia and Tim's relationship to that of Samson and Delilah's, thankfully, it ended MUCH differently.
I believe Tebow was, is, and with the help of God will continue to be a standard for holiness in a world of compromise. I would, however, encourage him to inch toward women who actually have a proven track record of godly living in the future. May God strengthen him in his endeavors, keep the wrong people out of his life, and attract the right, Kingdom connections.
Touchdown, Tebow!
