On October 26, 2003 – Sunday, there will be a prayer event called “Day of Prayer and Solidarity With Israel” organized by the Stand for Israel Project of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. Many Christian groups are expected to be present at the event.
The Southern Baptist Convention is encouraging members to take part in this weekend's prayer event and ask God to bless Israel and support its people.
George Mamo, the Fellowship's chief executive officer emphasized the importance of praying for peace of Jerusalem and hoped to see many other Christian churches and groups follow so that Jews in Israel and the US would know Christians are supporting them in prayer.
He is hoping to see as many people participating as last year’s prayer event for Israel which estimated to be about five million Christians from 17,000 churches. He said,
"We're taking the admonition that we find in scripture to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and making one day where thousands of churches and millions of Christians to focus on that.
"On October 26, we're actually sponsoring our second Day of Prayer and Solidarity with Israel, and it is an effort to really show not only Israelis, but Jews in America, too, that Christians are among the best friends of Israel"
