Pop vocalist Ciara Harris, who last month got engaged to Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, has revealed that it was only after she placed her trust in God that she found her soulmate.
After close to one year of dating, the 27-year-old Christian athlete asked the 30-year-old "I Bet" singer to marry him while vacationing in the Seychelles. At the time, both took to social media to express their excitement.
"I feel complete. God Is Good," Ciara tweeted. "Grateful For You @DangRussWilson. You Are Heaven Sent. I'm Looking Forward To Spending Forever With You."
During a recent interview with Essence Magazine, the popstar reflected on willing Wilson into her life and revealed that he fulfills everything she desired in a man.
"I remember telling my friend the kind of guy I wanted: a God-fearing man with a very fun spirit who loves kids and would really, truly care for me. I was very specific because I do believe you can have it all."
The Grammy winner admitted that her highly-publicized 2014 breakup with rapper Future - who is also the father of her young son - prompted her to cry out to God and completely changed her perspective on relationships.
"The moment I realized I was going to be a single mother, I had to reflect and reorganize my thoughts. I decided to trust that God had a plan for me, and move forward one day at a time," Ciara told the news outlet.
With her painful past behind her, the singer revealed she is focused on maintaining a loving relationship with Wilson and honoring God with her life.
"I want to live with as much lightness as possible, so I can stay focused on my love of God, and being the best mom, and the best person, I can be," she told Essence.
"Marriage is something I look forward to. I believe in family, and the beauty of two people committing to spend their lives together," she added.
Ciara also emphasized that communication is rooted in a strong foundation for marriage: "We talk about everything. To me, to both of us, that's the foundation you need for love to flourish and reach its highest place," she said.
The couple made headlines throughout their relationship after Wilson revealed during an interview with San Diego's Rock Church the two were abstaining from sexual activity because they want to honor God with their relationship.
"I asked her 'what would you do if we took all that other stuff off the table and did it Jesus' way, no sex?" Wilson revealed he asked the singer. "I knew God had brought me into her life to bless her and for her to bless me and to bless so many people with the impact that she has and I have. We're not going to be perfect, by any means."
However Wilson said he believes God anointed him and Ciara.
"He's anointed both of us and He's calling for us to do something special," the quarterback said.
Ciara previously said the decision not to engage in sex with each other has helped foster a growth within the union.
"He's such an awesome guy and the cool thing is that every day, we're growing with each other. We get to have really healthy conversations and focus on each other as people," she told the Cosmopolitan magazine back in January. "That is very important to me and him. It's very valuable."
She credited prayer with helping the couple stay strong.
"We're just enjoying ourselves and going one day at a time and praying and staying positive," she said. "Being strong here."
