In the last fourteen years, there have been two different Spider-Man reboots. The first one, starring Toby Maguire in 2002 had 2 sequels following in 2004 and 2007. The second reboot in 2012, starring Andrew Garfield, had one sequel in 2014. Well, it's time for another Spider-Man reboot. This time, Peter Parker will be played by British actor, Tom Holland, who will first be showing up as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War.
The new Spider-Man movie does not yet have an official name, but the BBC noticed that Sony has made a registered domain of SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com. If you enter that in the URL address bar, it kicks back to www.sonypictures.com. Some fans are not happy with that as a title, but they may not have to worry, as it could possibly be a red herring. Sony has not officially announced the title to this new reboot yet. This same type of leak is the same way that everyone learned of the James Bond film's name, Skyfall.
According to Angie Han at Slashfilm, the alleged title may be in reference to the comic book Amazing Spider-Man #252. Homecoming was a story-line arc where Spider-Man puts on the infamous black suit and becomes Venom. Other Marvel Avengers characters appear, including Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. Since Spider-Man is going to be brought into the new Captain America movie, and there are rumors that Captain America and Iron Man will visit the new Spider-Man film, it makes sense.
There are also some other Spider-Man projects coming out by Sony in the future. There is an animated Spider-Man movie that is due to be out in 2018. Another Marvel comic standalone movie with Venom is in the works with screenwriter Dante Harper and producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Those could be speculated to be related to the Homecoming title, but I think Sony would focus on first things first.
What else do we know about the new Spider-Man film? Jon Watts, best known for his work in Cop Car, is the director. It is due to come to theaters on July 28th, 2017. Marvel, Disney, and Sony are all collaborating together in this film, starring 19-year-old Tom Holland. According to Yahoo! Movies, the film will focus on the high school roots of Peter Parker, but the origin story that has been done in the former two Spider-Man film series movies will not be redone. IMDB still has the film titled, Untitled Spider-Man Reboot. Besides Tom Holland, the stars listed are Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and Zendaya- the Disney Channel star is listed as playing Michelle.
