Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and 6.0 Marshmallow Release Date Update For LG G4, G3, and G2

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the horizon, it seems LG is skipping Android 5.1.1 Lollipop - if rumors are to be believed. Naturally, LG will focus its efforts on the latest devices that include the G4 and G3. Even so, there are questions regarding whether the G2 will continue receiving updates that include Android Marshmallow.

When is LG Rolling Out Android Marshmallow

Recently, Google rolled out the third and last version of the developer's edition of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. That means the upcoming Android OS will be available soon.

Even so, it will take time for Android Marshmallow to reach most consumers. Major manufacturers including LG will need to integrate the new Android into their devices. Afterwards, domestic wireless service providers will need to run the obligatory soak tests before rolling out Android Marshmallow on a public scale.

LG May Skip Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Entirely

Unlike its competitors, LG has been relatively slow in pushing out updates. For instance, both the LG G4 and G3 are still on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The LG G2's latest update is Android 5.0 Lollipop. Despite rumors to the contrary, all three smartphones never got the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Now that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is nearing completion, prospects for the final LG Lollipop update are slim.

Is the LG G2 Support Ending Soon?

Though the G4 and G3 will certainly enjoy firmware updates for some time, the aging LG G2 runs the risk of having no support in the foreseeable future. It is unclear whether LG plans to update the G2 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop or Android M. Still, there are rumors that suggest LG will keep supporting the G2 for a while longer.

In July, GSMArena reported that the LG G2 will receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in the future. The information allegedly came from an anonymous LG employee. Release date details were not given, even though the source reported that the update will be ready in two months. It remains to be seen whether this prediction comes true.
