Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is one of the most successful video games in history. Its online version, the GTA Online is also enjoying strong popularity beyond the expectation of game developer Rockstar that it has changed the company's focus as well as its effect on the game's future.
As a way of thanking its loyal fans, Rockstar said fresh contents would become available on GTA online, particularly in the Freemode Events of its multiplayer mode. But the latest upgrades are only available to users of PC and the latest consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Rockstar said in its official web site.
In the comments section of web site's forum, a Rockstar representative stated, "The Freemode Events Update is only for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. As we'd mentioned previously in our Asked & Answered series here at the Newswire... future content updates like this one would only be possible on the newer and more powerful systems."
Rockstar also promised that the Freemode Events Update will provide major upgrades for GTA Online with fresh challenges and give players a unique experience in each of the session. The announcement reads, "Freemode Events in Grand Theft Auto Online are a new advancement in open world gameplay, giving players access to a range of seamlessly integrated games and challenges in GTA Online's Freemode. Taking full advantage of the latest generation of consoles and PC hardware, there are no menus, lobbies, or load times - just an open Freemode session filled with Friends, Crewmates, rivals, and randoms where spontaneous and chaotic new games and challenges will appear."
According to the Rockstar, players should expect any of the events to kick off any time while playing in Freemode. However, players also have the options to customize their sessions to choose which of the events will happen to allow them the game play they want to play, including little or more of a particular content that they like.
"With countless variations on each Freemode Event, there are tons of unique new experiences, each offering new opportunities for reaping GTA$ and RP in GTA Online," the statement added.
Success of GTA Online Changes Rockstar Focus
Loyal fans of GTA have been looking forward to the release of its sixth installment. The latest word from Rockstar has indicated that the release date of GTA 6 has been pushed back to 2018 and not in 2017 as earlier announced.
The sixth installment of the popular gangster video game Grand Theft Auto will be coming in 2018. Game developer Rockstar has a policy not to release a game each year, thus the likelihood that GTA 6 will be released in 2017 as earlier announced remains bleak.
In an interview with IGN, Director of Design at Rockstar North Imran Sarwar revealed that the current focus of Rockstar is on GTA Online "which has exceeded our expectations."
Sarwar added, "We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity. The community we've been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game.
"The evolution of GTA Online on these newer platforms is also an exciting prospect as the power of those systems is going to allow us to achieve even more.
"Every key member of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V has worked on every aspect of GTA Online, from all content through Heists, and now to these latest updates.
"This comes from our initial approach to GTA Online - we wanted to create an experience that was equal in quality and detail to the efforts we had made in our single player games, and we believed players could have both without sacrificing one over the other.
"GTA Online has proven too interesting and too important to be separate from the main mission of the entire team."
