Now that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is firmly on Android users' radar, Motorola may be amongst the first manufacturers to update to the next firmware. There is already word that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is on its way to the Motorola Moto 2nd Gen and Moto 3rd Gen. So far, Motorola has not revealed plans for the Moto G 1st Gen, Moto E (2013) and Moto E (2014).

Last week, Google rolled out the third and last version of the developer's edition of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. That means the upcoming Android OS will be available soon. Based on a number of factors, it will take time for Android Marshmallow to reach most consumers.

Naturally, those using Google's proprietary Nexus handsets will get their Android 6.0 updates first. The next process is for manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, LG and Motorola to start adopting the new Android. Afterwards, domestic wireless service providers will need to run soak tests before rolling out Android Marshmallow.

When Motorola Will Roll Out Android 6.0 Marshmallow

According to Android Pit, several Motorola devices will be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon. They include the Moto G (2015), Moto G (2014), Moto E 3rd Gen, Moto X (Pure Edition), Moto X Play and Moto X (2014). The publication did not say when its expect Android 6.0 Marshmallow to be released on Motorola's flagships.

However, Greek Snack predicted that at least the Motorola Moto G series and Moto X (2014) will receive Android 6.0 Marshmallow in 2016. However, the news-site also believed that older models such as the first generation Moto G and Moto X will not get the update.

Naturally, these two reports are based on educated guesses and should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.

Motorola Skipping Android 5.1.1

For the most part, Motorola seems to be skipping Android 5.1.1 Lollipop in favor of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. At this time, the majority of Motorola's device lineup is stuck on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Moto G 3rd Gen has Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but only because the firmware already comes with the device.
