Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update Skipped On HTC One M9, M8, Eye; 6.0 Marshmallow Release date Coming Soon

With Android 6.0 Marshmallow just around the corner, HTC may have skipped Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the One M8, One M9 and One M8 Eye. Although Google has yet to confirm the Android Marshmallow release date, online theories tend to suggest September or October.

What is the Most Current Android on HTC One M8, M9

The overwhelming majority of One M9 and One M8 users are still stuck on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Major U.S. carriers including AT&T, Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile have not announced plans to release Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on both devices.

Oddly though, HTC has oddly rolled out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop to the Developer's Edition for the One M9 and One M8. The recent silence regarding Android 5.1.1 seems to suggest that HTC has moved onto Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Is HTC Still Supporting the One M8 Eye

At this time, the One M8 Eye is still running on the now ancient Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Curiously, HTC has not rolled out any update for the device in the U.S. Even so, HTC Source reported that One M8 Eye owners in India received Android 5.0 Lollipop. The rest of the world will still need to wait for the next OS update. It remains to be seen whether HTC will continue supporting the One M8 Eye in the future.

When Will Marshmallow Reach HTC

Even though Google may be releasing Android 6.0 Marshmallow this fall, it will still take some time for the firmware to reach manufacturers and carriers. Generally, those who have a subscription service through a carrier will be the last to receive any Android update.

Happily, a senior HTC manager announced that at least the One M9 and One M9 Plus will be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Naturally, Google's Nexus series will be the first mobile devices to receive the Marshmallow update when it comes out. Two weeks ago, the company rolled out the third and last version of the developer's edition of Android 6.0. Afterwards, Marshmallow will roll out to the general public.
