A 21-year-old journalist has written an open letter to Miley Cyrus responding to the popstar's controversial statements regarding Christians and reminding the singer of Jesus' love despite her mockery of Him, His Word, and His followers.
In an interview with Paper Magazine last month, Cyrus, who was raised in a Christian home and baptized in a Southern Baptist Church, slammed Christian conservatives for believing in "fairy tales" like the story of Noah's ark and argued that those who hold to a traditional definition of marriage should not be permitted to make laws.
"That's f--king insane," the 22-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer told the magazine of people who believe in Old Testament stories. "We've outgrown that fairy tale, like we've outgrown f--king Santa and the tooth fairy."
The former Disney Channel star, who appears nude within the publication, also criticized her parent's political views, calling them "conservative-ass mother--kers," but maintains that she is the "least judgemental person ever."
In response, Christian journalist Moriah Dee recently wrote an open letter to Cyrus, in which she reveals that as a young girl, she watched Hannah Montana and emulated the "Wrecking Ball" singer. She even defended the popstar as "just growing up" when many began criticizing her for becoming "too vulgar" following the release of her 2010 "Can't Be Tamed" music video.
However, Dee writes that while she was saddened by Cyrus' decision to forego clothing in the recent issue of Paper Magazine, she was particularly "shocked, extremely offended and a little bit hurt by the things" the singer said.
"[S]omehow the interview transitions very quickly to bashing beliefs that are very important and sacred to me and many other people around the world," Dee writes. "Calling the story of Noah's ark a fairytale is not only extremely offensive, it's also frankly untrue. Maybe instead of bashing Noah, you should be thanking him for having the courage to follow God's lead no matter the social backlash that it caused him. Social backlash is something with which you seem to be very familiar. You should understand better than most others how difficult it can be to withstand. Maybe instead of condemning people for believing in Noah, you should be commending them for standing up for what they believe."
Dee writes that while she feels "judged" by Cyrus, she feels compelled to tell the pop singer that she is loved by God.
"You may no longer believe in God or the things written in the Bible, but that doesn't make them untrue," Dee writes. "God still loves you no matter what you say about Him. That's the incredible thing about Him. You may have given up on Him, but He'll never give up on you. I want to personally apologize to you for anyone who may have told you differently, but please believe me when I say that God will never stop loving you. It hurts my heart to know that you may never know what it is to truly experience that love from God which triumphs any other kind of love that you try to experience through what you call expression and love."
Dee reveals that she is praying that the "Party in the USA" singer finds the true love that only comes from returning to the faith she was raised in.
"I hope that you truly believe me when I say I will be praying for you, and I hope that other Christians will be also," Dee continues. "I know what it is to feel empty and to find your worth in how many people know your name, but I also know what it is to find your identity and security in the words that are written in that book that you compared to fairytales. Miley, the only way that the Bible compares to a fairytale is that when you truly understand the words written within it, you can't help but feel like a princess. That is a desire that no women outgrows."
