Creation Museum president Ken Ham has responded to Miley Cyrus' mockery of people who believe that the Noah's Ark narrative in the Bible is true and warned that culture is quickly "abandoning" morality and promoting sexual perversion.
"What parent would want their child looking up to someone like this today who now, as an adult, shakes her fist at God and promotes sexual perversion?" Ham, who is also the CEO and president of Answers in Genesis, wrote on his AiG blog.
"Where Miley Cyrus is now in her thinking is where our culture is heading as more and more people abandon Christian morality based on the Bible and decide to make their own rules/laws. Yes, the culture is becoming like that described in the book of Judges."
Ham's comments were made in response to a recent interview Cyrus did for Paper magazine, where she posed nude and expressed her distaste for Christian conservatives.
"Those people [shouldn't] get to make our laws," Cyrus said of Christians who hold to a traditional view of marriage.
The 22-year-old "Party in the USA" singer went on to slam Christians who believe Noah's Ark was a real vessel: "That's f--king insane," she told the magazine. "We've outgrown that fairy tale, like we've outgrown f--king Santa and the tooth fairy."
The former Disney Channel star also criticized her parent's political views, calling them "conservative-ass mother--kers", and revealed that she doesn't relate to being "a boy or a girl," as she is open to "every single thing that is consenting and doesn't involve an animal."
In his blog post, Ham warned that Cyrus is not just rejecting the biblical accounts in Genesis, but the entire "Ark of salvation" in Jesus Christ, as "Noah's Ark is a picture of salvation."
"As Noah and his family went through a door to be saved, so we need to go through a door to be saved from sin and its eternal effects of separation from God," he explained.
Ham also addressed Cyrus' view that "gender is fluid," writing, "Why not involve an animal? On what basis does she decide that? Besides, if there's no God and she's just a result of evolution, then she is merely an animal anyway. And those she interacts with sexually are just animals - so why not any animals? In other words, she has decided to draw a line for some reason - but what reason?"
He continued, "It's actually because in her heart she knows God exists (Romans 1), she knows she is different from the animals as she is made in God's image (Genesis 1) - and she has a conscience (as seared as it is because of her sinful rebellion) because the law is written on our hearts (Romans 2)."
Ham went on to explain Cyrus' cynicism towards Christianity, noting that those who rebel against God's laws cannot stand those who hold to Biblical truths: "Because of our sin nature, those who reject God and His Word will increasingly look on Christians as the enemy. We are seeing just that today in our culture. Those who want to do 'what is right in their own eyes' don't want freedom of religion; they are increasingly demanding that Christians accept what they do as okay or Christians shouldn't be allowed to have freedom in the culture," he writes.
The AiG president added that he hopes Cyrus will eventually visit the Ark Encounter project, a life-size 510-foot-long replica of Noah's Ark in Williamstown, Kentucky, and prays that she will someday "repent" of her "rebellion."
"I do pray that Miley Cyrus will repent of her rebellion against the living "Ark" (Jesus Christ) and go through that door to be saved," Ham concludes. "I pray even Miley Cyrus might come to the Ark Encounter one day and have an encounter with Noah's Ark, an encounter with God's Word, and most of all, an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ."
Ham is not the only conservative voice to hit back at Cyrus; Bristol Palin, daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, also addressed the popstar in a strongly-worded op-ed earlier in June.
"[Cyrus] wants everyone else to let her be "free to be Miley," but seems unwilling to offer the same respect to her parents and those who wish to live out their Christian faith," Palin wrote in a blog post published on Patheos. "Oh, Miley. Thanks for giving us the best example of what "tolerance" looks like in Hollywood: it looks a lot like contempt."
