Thursday night brings a big rivalry game, and a chance for either the New York Giants or the Washington Redskins to find some success this season. Washington will host the Giants at FedEx Field, and the Giants will be looking to continue the winning ways from week 3, while the Redskins will try and come back strong after losing a battle to the Eagles in week 3.
Giants vs. Redskins game will start on CBS at 8:25 p.m. EST tonight, Sept 25 and can be watched online via live stream on the links below (free for subscribers). Most players will tell you, playing on a Thursday instead of the usual Sunday is tough because of the shortened week, and this may be especially true for the Redskins. They lost a tough game to the Eagles last week, and they have some hobbled players because of the contest.
On Offense, the Redskins will count on Kirk Cousins to lead the team again, after Robert Griffin III was injured in week 2. Cousins has played very well since getting an opportunity to start, going 30-48 for 427 yards against the Eagles with three touchdowns and one interception. Pierre Garcon hauled in 11 of those passes for 138 yards and a score, while Desean Jackson caught 5 balls for 117 yards and a touchdown. The offensive trio will have to do well against the Giants if Washington is going to win this week.
The defensive unit for Washington is doing very well this year, ranked fourth in the league in total defense. They have they held opponents to 218 passing yards per game, and Washington's rush defense is allowing less than 65 yards per game. They shut down the Eagles running game and forced Philadelphia to throw the ball to win. If they can do the same to the Giants. beleaguered quarterback Eli Manning may have problems and throw some pics, which will put the Redskins in a good position to win.
Speaking of Manning, he threw 234 yards, going 21-28 against the Texans last week. He did not throw any interceptions, after throwing 2 in both of the first two games of the season. If he continues playing that way, it will be hard for the Redskins to win. Not only did Manning fair well against the Texans, but the offense was also bolstered by running back Rashad Jennings who rushed the ball 34 times for a career high 176 yards. How he matches up against he Redskin defensive front will be a key to this game.
The Giants defense has done well at shutting down the pass so far this year, intercepting Ryan Fitzpatrick 3 times last week. They hope to have similar success against Cousins, after picking him off twice in their game against him last year. If they can stop him, and keep Alfred Morris under 100 yards, they have a strong chance at winning in Washington.
