Stephen Hill was cut by the New York Jets, and now the free agent wide receiver is looking for work in a league that is seemingly starved for talent at that position.
His departure from New York on Saturday ended two disappointing years with the Jets, after he was selected in the 2nd round by the team. In fact, the Jets traded up four spots in the draft to get Hill out of Georgia Tech.
The odd thing is he is 23 years old, stands 6'4' and can run a sub 4.4 forty yard dash. Based on those numbers, one would think he would be the anchor of a teams receiving core, but he has never reached his potential.
He has suffered from nagging knee problems for most of his time in the NFL, which may explain why he wasn't picked up after being waived. Although, he is supposedly healthy again.
He didn't fare that well for the Jets during the preseason, only making 3 catches on 8 balls thrown his way, tallying 42 yards.
Although Hill never panned out for the Jets, another team may decide to give him a shot. The Texans, who were desperate for help at the poition, picked up Damaris Johnson from Philadelphia over the weekend, but there are other teams that may take a shot on Hill.
Here are three that may give him a go.
1. The Carolina Panthers - According to NFL Insider Adam Caplan, Hill has been working out for them, and it is widely known they need help at receiver after letting Steve Smith go.
2. The Cleveland Browns - According to the Cleveland News-Herald, the five receivers that made their 53 man roster only had 41 total catches last year. They are very inexperienced to say the least. Losing Josh Gordon to suspension was a big hit for them.
3.New England Patriots - Coach Bill Belichick has been one of those 'project' coaches, and sometimes he can take a player who doesn't work out with other clubs and turn them into a viable contributor. If he could teach Hill to hang on to the ball, there is no doubt Tom Brady could get use him to light up opposing defenses.
