The Evolve release date will be delayed to 2015, according to a recent announcement from its game distributor Take-Two Interactive.
"We'll have a bit more development time which we think the title deserves," said Take-Two Chairman and Chief Executive Strauss Zelnick, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Originally slated for launch on Oct. 21, Evolve will instead be available on Feb. 10, 2015. Take-Two confirmed this information as part of their financial result announcement to investors on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
For now, Take-Two has not offered a reason for the delay, which pushes Evolve out of the lucrative fall release cycle. Traditionally, fall launch dates often coincide with consumer shopping for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Highly-anticipated titles that will be released this coming fall include Assassin's Creed: Unity and Alien: Isolation. Take-Two's subsidiary 2K is releasing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel at roughly the same time.
Evolve's gameplay involves five players -- four human hunters against one monstrous alien. The hunters occupy four classes, each with their distinct role. According to the game's developer Turtle Rock Studio, the hunting team will need to cooperate in order to survive. The game will mainly be focused on the multiplayer aspect, though the game's developer Turtle Rock hinted at a possible solo experience.
Player number five will take on the role of the alien, which needs to feed on other creatures in order to grow larger. At first, the alien is not strong enough to defeat the hunters. So, the fifth player will need to evade the hunters while finding food. With patience, the monster will eventually grow into an unstoppable eating-killing machine.
When it was introduced at E3 2014, Evolve was generally well-received by critics. Since then, the game has garnered E3's Best of Show Award as well as three other similar commendations.
For now, the game is available for pre-order on its official website. Players who order early will get the Monster Expansion Pack, which includes the "New Monster Character" and "Savage Goliath Skin".
