Sony's Xperia Z3 does not have a confirmed release date, but purported photos of the new mobile device have already begun making the rounds in the rumor mill.
Leaks surfaced last Friday over at the Xperia Blog, which showcased a series of photos showing what appears to be the Xperia Z3. Apparently, the device featured in the picture series is the Chinese version model number L55T of the upcoming Sony smartphone. The mobile device shown in the picture set seems to be a working device, but it is not clear whether the tablet is actually the rumored Xperia Z3.
One notable image appears to show the mystery device running the Android 4.4.4 KitKat software. That picture also reveals that the device may have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974-AC chipset with 2.5GHz quad-core processor Adreno 330 graphics.
Even so, there is no general consensus about the Xperia Z3's specs. Other sources, in fact, argue that the Xperia Z3 comes with the Snapdragon 805 processor. Until the Xperia Z3 is released, it is difficult to know who is right.
On Saturday, the same blog released additional photo, but this time showing the side and top view. For size comparison, a Samsung Galaxy Note was placed next to the alleged Sony Xperia Z3. Measuring at 146.9 x 83 x 9.7mm, the Sony device has a screen that is significantly narrower than the Samsung device. These latest photos also show a mysterious hole on the left side of device, which observers believe to be a microphone hole or speaker.
At this time, Sony has yet to confirm a release date for the Xperia Z3. Still, there have been rumors that the tablet will be making an appearance in September at the upcoming IFA conference in Berlin, Germany.
