The Seattle Seahawks won their first Super Bowl champions after defeating the Denver Broncos 43-8 last night. Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes in the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII and led the team to win.
Wilson has a Super Bowl title in his second NFL season and also made history as the second African-American starting quarterback to win an NFL championship.
Although Wilson becomes an overnight star at Super Bowl 2014, he humbly gave thanks to God for all He has given him.
"God is so good," Wilson said after the game. "We believed we would get here. At the beginning of the season I told our guys, 'Hey, why not us?' "
Then he explained his source of inspiration.
"He used to always tell me 'Russ, why not you?' And what that meant was believe in yourself, believe in the talent God has given you even though you are 5-foot-11, and you can go a long ways. That's why I decided to play football, and I wanted to go against the odds a little bit."
Wilson, when asked how he's dealt with the adversity, said on "CBS This Morning,"God's given me so much talent and my height doesn't define my skill set," he said. "I believe that God has given me a right arm and for some reason even though I'm 5'11" to be able to make the throws and make great decisions on the field and all that."
The 25-year-old quaterback not only led his team to victory, but as the game ended with confetti raining down on them, he also led fellow Christians to kneel and pray on the field, giving glory to God.
"He brought me a really long way. It's unbelievable. It's kind of surreal to be honest with you. Sitting there holding that trophy up and I'm looking up, I'm just so thankful for everything that I've been given." the Christian quarterback said.
Seahawks offensive tackle Russell Okung also gave thanks to God.
"The Lord allowed me to be here," he said. "And I keep saying that all the time, man. With Him there's purpose man. I'm not just here to exist, I'm here to live. And I'm glad He's going to use me this way through my platform to bring glory to Him."
