People's Choice Awards 2014 will air tonight on CBS at 9/8c. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the American awards show, recognizing the people and the work of popular culture. While the show will be televised only on CBS, the awards' red carpet pre-show will be live streamed on PeopleChoice.com beginning at 8/7c. The awards ceremony will be available online through free live stream (details can be found below).
Dozens of celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Sandra Bullock, Brittney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco, The Vampire Diaries‘ Ian Somerhalder are confirmed to attend the festivity held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California, on January 8, 2014. The red carpet pre-show features dazzling dresses to countless celebrity appearances. In addition to interviewing fan favorites, red carpet hosts Dave Karger, SuChin Pak and Tim Gunn will be handing out the very first awards of the night.
People's Choice Awards hosts Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs, who are 2 Broke Girls co-stars, are first time hosts, and they are also nominated for a People's Choice Award. They say they turned to former host Queen Latifah for advice about how to tackle the show, which they promise will have "a lot of surprises" and "guest-star action."
People's Choice Awards Executive Producer Mark Burnett says he's leaving the show in their hands. "These guys are so funny and have great chemistry," says Burnett. "I couldn't be happier. I'm just letting them do what they want."
OneRepublic will be performing "Counting Stars" live on People's Choice Awards tonight. The band's frontman Ryan Tedder shared that the band will feature a string quartet to give their performance a classical element. He also shared how the inspiration for the song came as he was writing for global icon Beyonce.
In addition, 2014 Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles will perform her hit song "Brave." Joining Bareilles at this year's awards ceremony will be country crooner Brad Paisley.
On Tuesday, People's Choice 2014 announced that Jennifer Hudson won the 2014 People's Choice Award for Favorite Humanitarian.
The People's Choice Awards are produced by Procter & Gamble and Survivor producer Mark Burnett. The award show's creator is Bob Stivers, who produced the first show in 1975, and Procter & Gamble bought the show from Stivers in 1982.
Throughout the 20th century, the awards were based upon results from Gallup polls. Each year, Gallup took a survey of different categories for favorite actor, actress, movie, artist, television program or group. The scope was unlimited - the public could choose whomever or whatever it liked.
The winners of the 31st People's Choice Awards (aired January 9, 2005) were decided by online voting rather than Gallup polls. The nominees is now determined by media research company Visible Measures, which specializes in measuring Internet Video audience behavior.
To measure True Reach, Visible Measures deploys a robust and patented set of technologies with the goal of capturing the universe of Internet video viewership data in near real-time.
