With the expectation of Android 4.4 KitKat and Nexus 5 release date running high, the Google Play Event in New York City tonight seems like a perfect time to reveal the new device. However, a Google spokesperson has told Electronista that it won't happen.
"The October 24 event will not be a launch of a device or hardware, rather a mixer for consumer press to better acquaint themselves with Google Play," the rep said. In other words, the special event will allow Google to show off its updated Google Play Store 4.4.
The Google press event is scheduled for October 24 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT in New York City. Google sent out invites and the event will feature "music movies, games and a special performance by Capital Cities."
Although many have expected Google will launch the Nexus 5 along with the Android 4.4 KitKat on October 15, which actually didn't happen, most sources have speculated that the Nexus 5 will be announced toward the end of October or early November.
Meanwhile, pre-orders for the Nexus 5 have been posted on eBay, it was asking $650 for 32 GB and $600 for 16 GB. However, it is suggested that Nexus 5 will launch at $399 for 16GB and $449 for 32GB.
It looks like fans will have to wait for a few more days before the Nexus 5 is officially launched.
