Nick Vujicic, the man who was born without legs and arms, swam with sharks at Marine Life Park in Singapore on Thursday. The evangelical Christian has traveled to Asia for a two-week outreach, hoping to tell to thousands of people about Jesus Christ.
Vujicic has endured many physical and emotional challenges during his lifetime. He struggled to accept God's plan for his life as a young boy, and felt as though God had made a mistake by creating him with such a disability. He thought that he had been overlooked by God, and attempted to commit suicide at the age of ten.
His life turned around when he came to trust in the plans that God has for him. Vujicic came to understand that he has never been overlooked by God, even for a moment - "I'm thankful that God did not let me wallow in my disability for too long. Over time, I began to see and feel His touch on my life," he said. Since then, Vujicic has become an active evangelist, speaking to millions of people around the world about Christ. He has accomplished amazing feats - like swimming and sky diving without limbs. "My life is a constant reminder that God doesn't make mistakes. My condition - my disability - posed no challenge for Him," he said in a short devotional entitled "Nothing's Too Hard."
The new husband and father has been on a tour of several Asian countries, and has preached in Bangkok, Chang Mai, and in Singapore. He spoke to 3,000 people - a sold-out event - at Grace Assembly of God earlier today.
"Anyone else fancy a swim?" asked Vujicic, posting a Facebook picture of himself diving into a glass water tank, surrounded by sharks. He told Channel NewsAsia, that the experience was "awesome ... In fact, looking through the glass, you don't feel like you're in a glass tank. You feel like you're there swimming with the sharks," he said.
This is but one of many extraordinary things that Vujicic has done in his lifetime. Although he has had to overcome many challenges, Vujicic attests to Christ's surpassing worth. "I don't want arms and legs, I want purpose. I don't want arms and legs, I want peace," he says. Jesus brings just that.
