ONEIDA, NY - The Oneida Family YMCA is planning to start construction of a 6,100 square-foot of additional facilities in April as it has almost met its goal of $1 million fundraising, which began last May.
"I think the expansion is going to give the community something it doesn't have," said Kelly. "We really appreciate all the support we've gotten so far," said Kelly. "The Oneida Family YMCA has really improved the health and wellness of people in our area, and it's been a great asset for our seniors."
The new facility includes two racquetball courts, two four-person saunas, a steam room, storage room, and lounge area. There will also be a climbing and traverse wall built in the gymnasium, and a playground and volleyball court.
"We have $724,000 so far, enough to start, but we still need more to reach the project goal," said fundraising coordinator Beth Kelly. "This is going to be awesome when it's finished and it should increase our membership too."
The capital campaign includes 109 membership donations at $31,225, small business donations of $14,750, 22 private pledges of $29,950, and $6,800 raised through the brick campaign. Major contributions of $640,000 were also received.
