Hong Kong, Yau-Ma-Tei, Tsim-Sha-Tsui, Mong-kok Church Workers’ Fellowship organized a joint prayer meeting on June 8th, 7:30pm HKST in the Truth Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong where around 100 people from over 10 churches gathered.
The organizer of this prayer meeting emphasized that the title is “Against the Laws for Homosexuality”, instead of “Against the Anti-Discrimination Laws of Sexual Orientation.”
Rev. Shing Tung Chan, the president of this fellowship explained that one of the reasons that the anti-sexual orientation discrimination law was made is to support homosexuality. The Christian community is not only against recent legislations passed supporting homosexuals, but they say homosexuality is simply ‘wrong.’
The Christian body says that the “anti-discrimination law” will make homosexuality normal in society.
In this prayer meeting, church members and pastors spoke about the development of homosexual movements in Hong Kong around the world, in the past few years. They also pointed out the profound bad social influences brought by this law. Andrew Hung, the representative of the Society of Truth and Light, explained that protecting homosexual rights will bring devastating influences upon society, religion, education, and social morale.
The attendants were divided into small group to pray for different topics about “against the legislation for homosexuality”. The topics include:
1. Giving thanks for God’s creation of the union of one man and one woman
2. The acknowledge and confess the sinful deviatons and misinterpretations of several churches of the matter of homosexuality.
3. Repentance for the churches who participated wrongfully in supporting homosexual rights
4. Confessing for Hong Kong officials for their moral ignorance and absurd support for homosexuality.
5. To acknowledge the sin of going against the law of God’s creation of one man and one woman.
6. To seek the divine help from God to bless and guide Hong Kong according to his principle and direction.
People gathered at the meeting wholly participated in each prayer topic. The organizers of the prayer meeting called on people to continue to fight the spiritual battle between same-sex supporters and pro-family groups until the government yields and forfeits the legislation. Pastor Shing Tung Chan indicated that the fellowship will continue to hold these particular meetings.
The Home Affairs Bureau of Hong Kong has originally intended to begin the legislation process through surveying in April, but because those who oppose are multitudinous, the legislation is postponed until the end of the year.
