The Hong Kong and Macau Salvation Army Command launched the charity fundraising event Lai See Day on Jan 22nd.
The Honorable Mrs. Anson Chan, who is the advisory board member of the Salvation Army and the Ambassador of Lai See Day, appealed to the public together with pop singer group Boy'z and a team of "Junior Ambassadors of Lai See Day" to give one of their red envelopes to help the minority, as well as to decorate the Salvation Army Hoi Tai Residence for Senior Citizens with Chinese New Year displays to bring new year blessings to the frail elderly.
The Salvation Army hopes that this fund can support their work in social service, so as to help the underprivileged restore their confidence, visualize a brighter future and fight for a better tomorrow.
In recent years, Hong Kong kept facing an economical downturn and the gap between the rich and the poor was widened continuously. Hong Kong is amongst the top 5 regions that have the biggest gap between the rich and the poor in the world. More and more churches and faith-based organizations thus turned their focus on helping the poor in their social services.
An opening Lai See ceremony will be held on February 22, the 14th day of the Chinese New Year, at New Town Plaza, Shatin, to promote the charitable spirit. The Appeal Patron, the Honorable Mrs. Anson Chan, the Appeal Ambassadors, Twins and Boy'z and representatives from schools and organisations will bring their own Lai See and open it simultaneously to testify the "collaborative power of Lai See packets."
