According to Dr. Robert Rogan, a psychiatrist and a spokesman for the Christian Medical Association (CMA), mental related problems such as suicides and domestic violence in Florida are on the rise after four devastating hurricanes pummeled the state. Dr. Rogan indicated that these psychological reactions can be dealt with if Christians can lean on their faith while facing the aftermath of the disasters.
Quoting James 1, Dr. Rogan explained that believers can deal with any problem by “considering it all joy”. This process can help Christians to build strong characters and teach them how to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. He also added that with positive attitudes, believers can help other disaster victims spiritually and physically.
He said, "The key thing is to be very supportive of those people and realize that the whole world hasn't suddenly gone negative -- that this is just a localized short-term phenomenon -- and just give them perspective that life is a long-run thing, not a short-run thing."
The CMA provides resources, education, and a public voice for Christian healthcare professionals and students. The organization also exists to motivate, educate, and equip Christian physicians to glorify God by living out the character of Christ in their homes, practices, communities and around the world.
