Nearly 7,800 Christian men from around Southern California and the Southwest United States attended the two-day Promise Keepers event in San Diego, CA, on October 2, 2004. It was the 15th of 18 conferences of the season.
The two-day conference promoted a sensational atmosphere in the San Diego Sports Arena. As the conference ended, the men promised that they would join the spiritual revolution called “Uprising” to revolutionize their roles in life the way God wanted them to do.
Honor, nobility and enlightenment were the major themes of the conference as it emphasized the importance of integrity, humility and courage, the qualities that God seeks in mankind.
The large military community in San Diego was recognized during Saturday’s opening prayer. Vice Admiral Mike Bucchi (U.S. Navy, retired) offered thanksgiving for God’s care during the current war, and that God would energize the men at the conference.
Louie Giglio, founder of youth worship movement Passion, spoke to the crowd, “We are here to trade in our small stories, and join the larger story of our God.”
The two-day conference was based on the popular book by Erwin McManus, Uprising: A Revolution Of the Soul. Next weekend, the “Uprising” moves north to San Jose’s HP Pavilion (Oct. 8-9, 2004).
Emcee Reggie Dabbs ended the conference by inviting men to volunteer to help reconstruct homes destroyed in last year’s firestorm in the mountains east of San Diego. (www.firestormrecoveryteam.org)
Since its inception in 1990, PK has significantly impacted the lives of millions of men. The revolution continues Sept. 24-25 in Tucson, Arizona.
