Details around Google's Pixel 2 continue to spread on the Internet. The newest leaked data claims the upcoming Pixel smartphone will have better camera and body design than Samsung Galaxy S8. Also, the update to the critically acclaimed Pixel may come in two variants.
The Pixel's elegant design is very appealing for most of the mobile phone users. Now that the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 have thin bezels, Google will reportedly go bezel-less for the next Pixel smartphone. Tech experts say Pixel 2 may look old if Google does not upgrade its design. Therefore, the bezel-less design will push the handset into today's new sleek tech aesthetic.
Aside from the new look, Google Pixel will have improved low-light camera sensor for photography enthusiasts. The primary camera of the first Pixel has only 12 megapixels, and Google is set to upgrade that feature for the Pixel 2. The main snapper of the second Pixel might offer 18-megapixel sensor.
The camera of iPhone is popular for its low-light and steady video recording. To keep up with the upcoming iPhone 8, expect Pixel 2 to have smooth and light sensitive video recording capabilities.
Fox News reported that the new Pixel might also offer longer battery life. The current Pixel and Pixel XL only have 13 hours of battery life. That's a very good time for a premium smartphone. However, if the next Pixel has the same 13-hour battery capacity, it might not stay competitive in the smartphone market. The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus can last for up to 16 hours. So, we might see the next Pixel with 16-hour battery life.
Interestingly, folks from XDA Developers obtained interesting information on the upcoming Google Pixel 2 line. The publication said the data came from a developer who worked on the first version of the handset, suggesting the info is true. The developer revealed Google would release two variants of Pixel 2 this year, contrary to the rumored three versions.
The low-end version of Pixel 2 is codenamed "Walleye." It will reportedly have a 4.97-inch screen, a Snapdragon 835 processor and 4GB of RAM. Surprisingly, this smaller Pixel 2 may have similar features with iPhone 7. In a nod to Apple's revolutionary design, Google's plans to remove Walleye's headphone jack to make room for stereo speakers.
For the larger variant, "Taimen" will boast a 5.99-inch OLED display with 1440p resolution. Compare to Walleye, Taiman will have a headphone jack. Inside, it will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor, 128GB of storage and 4GB of RAM.
Google Pixel 2 release date is scheduled for October 2017. The handset is expected to become available in all major mobile carriers like Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.
