Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox recently agreed to include Legion in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fox still own the rights of X-Men mutants, but the recent agreement could lead to an Avengers and X-men Movie crossover. Kevin Feige revealed more about the possibility of adding more heroes in MCU.
Legion is the mutant son of Charles Xavier (Professor X). The Season 1 of Legion was released by FX Network. The 8-episode TV series was a product of Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox team-up. This collaboration is good news for fans as it shows the two studios can work together to bring more superheroes on TV and big screen.
20th Century Fox has the rights to big Marvel characters like Wolverine, Gambit, Deadpool, The Fantastic Four, and many other X-Men mutants.
In an interview with Jeremy Lasky of animation studio Perception, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige talked about the possibility of adding more superheroes in MCU in the future.
"My goal is to replicate the experience that, you know, comic book fans have reading the books up on the screen and we've been able to accomplish that beyond my wildest dreams over the last ten years," Feige said.
Interestingly, Spider-Man's appearance in Captain America: Civil War increases the possibility of Avengers and X-men Movie crossover. Spider originally belongs to Sony Pictures, but the company has allowed Marvel Studios to use their character in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There are two possibilities how the Avengers and X-men Movie Crossover will happen.
Scarlet Witch's Reality-Altering Powers
Killing characters is a time-honored tradition in comic books. Many analysts believe major characters will die in Avengers 4: Infinity War. So as a sequel, Marvel might finally tackle the House of M story arc, where Scarlet Witch lost control and created another reality.
The House of M reality was created by Scarlet Witch and Charles Xavier to make a new world for the Avengers and X-Men. With the events in Civil War, it is also possible that we'll see the comic book story line Avengers Disassembled in the movie.
The cross-over would be a huge project for Marvel Studios, but they need to release a big spectacle after the events in Avengers: Infinity War.
Dr. Strange's Multiple Universe
Dr. Strange introduced fans to the concept of multiple realities in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Strange's powers could pave the way for the team-up of X-Men heroes and Avengers to fight more powerful villain than Thanos. This approach is practical as no characters would need to be recast. Plus, it is interesting to see how Deadpool and Ironman would work alongside with each other.
As a conclusion, Marvel Studios' acquisition of Spider-Man and Legion shows that we might see more superheroes in MCU in the future. There rumors that Fox and Marvel Studios executives are now secretly meeting to discuss more collaborations in the next five years.
