The third trailer for Despicable Me 3 has finally arrived. It reveals the new characters that we will see in the film; there's Gru's twin brother and a new leader of the Minions. The sequel is set to premiere at France's Annecy International Animated Film Festival on June 14 before it hits theaters on June 30.
In the third installment, Gru and Lucy are now living a non-villainous life with their kids, but things will not stay that way. Gru is fired from his job for allowing the world's baddest villain, Balthazar Bratt, get away. While he is looking for a job, he discovered that he has a twin brother named Dru, who is trying to tempt him back to his old villainous life.
It looks like Illumination Entertainment wants us to see Gru's family side. Despicable Me 1 showed us how Gru learned to accept his adopted kids, and Despicable Me 2 showed us how he met Lucy. Now, he has to learn more about his family's villainous tradition.
The recent trailer shows his brother Dru living a luxurious life, complete with awesome cars and gadgets. In his underground office, he has statues of their family ancestors. Plus, he owns a wide range of weapons that they would use later in the film.
For the new villain, he is voiced by South Park's Trey Park. Balthazar Bratt wears a suit similar to Prince's outfits and is fond of Michael Jackson tracks. Bratt is a groovy character that would definitely add to the film's humor.
Furthermore, one of the interesting additions in Despicable Me 3 is the new Minion Mel. Unlike Stewart, Bob and Kevin who blindly follow Gru's plans, this new Minion is not a fan of the Minion's forced labor. A report from Entertainment Weekly says Mel will lead a revolution for Minions to fight for their freedom. It's interesting to see and might be used as a new narrative for Despicable 4.
Despicable Me 3 reunites the major voice actors of the franchise. There's Kristen Wiig as Lucy, Dana Gaier as Edith, Miranda Cosgrove as Margo and Nev Scharrel as Agnes. Russell Brand also comes back to bring life to Dr. Nefario and Steve Coogan returns to give voice to Silas Ramsbottom.
