The former Chicago Bears quarterback remains a free agent this offseason. However, rumors are circulating over the possibility of a Jay Cutler contract to the Detroit Lions. While no official comment has been given by the parties concerned in this NFL rumor, many believe that the veteran quarterback could still be the face of a franchise in the league.
"I don't get all the hatred toward him. I see a guy that worked hard and did everything he could to try to help his team win and sacrificed his body," said Adam Gase of Jay Cutler.
The Miami Dolphins coach added, "To me he was an athletic quarterback that could throw the ball, and when you got to third down you could call the worst play possible and he was going to get you the conversion. He made a lot of the things we did look really good. I guess I just don't get it. I think he has a lot to offer a team. I think he's a starting quarterback in the NFL."
Rumors are rife that the Detroit Lions could not accommodate the demands of the Matt Stafford contract. Despite the notable season of the quarterback, speculations are pointing to a potential divorce between him and the NFL team. More importantly, the star is reportedly looking at more lucrative offers from other football squads this offseason. "We've begun a few discussions with his representatives. These things take time. These things don't usually happen early in April or May, but we're working towards that," said Bob Quinn of a Matt Stafford contract with the Detroit Lions.
For his part, Matt Stafford said in an earlier interview that his contract extension with the Detroit Lions would not be up to him. However, the quarterback crisis in the NFL these days could present a lucrative climate for the quarterback.
"It's not up to me, it's up to the people upstairs and the Fords whether they want to or not," shared Matt Stafford of his contract extension. "So, it's not in the forefront of my mind at the moment. Got a lot of things going on personally that are important to me so I'll figure that out when I need to."
