Although Matt Ryan won the MVP award in the previous season, his age and injuries could be causes for major concerns getting into the next NFL season. These issues, however, appear to have found a solution in a potential Robert Griffin III contract to the Super Bowl runner-ups this offseason.
One of the most widely anticipated deals is the RG3 contract this offseason. Along with free agents Colin Kaepernick and Jay Cutler, the former Cleveland Browns star has been the topic of speculations across the league. Will the Atlanta Falcons be announcing an RG3 contract soon?
Rumors are rife that the Atlanta Falcons find no reason to rush a Matt Ryan contract this season. While the front office assures fans that this move is only done to focus more on the NFL draft, many speculate that the team might be looking into a cheaper contract with a younger quarterback. After all, the current contract of the veteran quarterback has the potential to balloon to surpass even the money offered to Andrew Luck in the Indianapolis Colts.
"I'm saying that eventually, we will address Matt Ryan and his contract," said Thomas Dimitroff. "Right now, our focus is going to be on this year's class, understanding that Matt is a very important part of our future, as every knows -- an extremely important part of our future."
Meanwhile, an RG3 contract is reportedly anticipated to enter the Atlanta Falcons' roster this offseason. Despite being released twice in a row by the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns, respectively, the young quarterback is still believed to be a valuable piece in any team's lineup. More importantly, rumors indicate that RG3 might agree to a cheaper payout considering his abysmal record in the past seasons.
"I'm not an idiot, I know a lot of people writing me off as a player, as a quarterback, saying I couldn't do it," said Robert Griffin III in an earlier interview. "And to go out and show that I can, I think that proves a lot of people wrong. But ultimately, like I said, at the end of the day, I want to win games. ... And [if] I don't get that opportunity, then that's out of my control. I've done everything I can to this point with the cards that I was dealt. ... Let the chips fall where they may."
