The Oakland Raiders have been facing difficult adjustments with their impending move to Las Vegas soon. However, it seems that this change of location will not be the most pressing concern for the Aldon Smith team. Reports have surfaced that the Denver Broncos swooped in the moment prized quarterback Derek Carr became available via free agency. What's next for the Oakland Raiders?
The Denver Broncos have been struggling to save their season amid the Peyton Manning retirement, Brock Osweiler exit and the failed Mark Sanchez trade they executed last NFL season. Despite drafting the talented Paxton Lynch, it seems that the former Super Bowl winners have yet to find a good quarterback to be their go-to guy in the gridiron. Will a Derek Carr contract be the answer to this?
Rumors are rife that the move of the Oakland Raiders to release Derek Carr to the free agency market offered one pressing concern: the urgent need of the rest of the league for a quality quarterback. For many football teams these days, a star like Derek Carr is an attractive piece to include in their roster. This sense of urgency and pressing need in the NFL makes this move quite a gamble for the Oakland Raiders.
"He knows what we're trying to do in free agency, and he's never saying, 'I need to know now.' It's not like that," shared Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie of Derek Carr. "More likely, the serious talks will happen after the draft. The communication has been ongoing, just talking about the philosophy of a contract and the thought process around it. Hopefully when the serious talks start going, then it's going to be easier."
At this point, no official comment has been made by the parties tagged in this NFL rumor. However, the Denver Broncos reportedly aim to complete a Derek Carr contract soon. More importantly, the Trevor Siemian squad plans to immediately incorporate the Oakland Raiders star in their plays. With the Tony Romo trade seemingly out of the question, this potential deal becomes very attractive to a team struggling to sign a seasoned quarterback.
What do you think? Should the Denver Broncos move valuable assets to sign a Derek Carr contract this offseason? Will the Oakland Raiders star be a better leader than either Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch?
