The San Antonio Spurs are considered one of the most serious contenders for the NBA championship this season despite the retirement of Tim Duncan. With Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Danny Green leading the team, even the age and injury issues of Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili seem minor concerns these days. More importantly, most of their stars in the roster appear to be happy and content with their roles. Minimal to almost nonexistent complaints of locker room drama and leadership issues had ever been heard from the team. Will this be the perfect group to welcome Derrick Rose in possibly the last stretch of his career?
The former Chicago Bulls star has been facing on and off court problems this season starting from his legal battles to the erratic plays he showed during games. Despite teaming up with Joakim Noah and Carmelo Anthony to supposedly support rising star Kristaps Porzingis in the New York Knicks, his season seemed to fail to live up to the expectations of his fans. Now, he might once again be on the move as Phil Jackson reportedly wants to seriously rebuild.
Rumors are rife that a Derrick Rose contract to the San Antonio Spurs has been widely entertained by the front office of the Pau Gasol squad. While some fans of the Kawhi Leonard team reject this possibility, many also believe that it could be a good move for the star. In particular, Isiah Thomas shared in an interview with Chris Webber for Players Only on Inside The NBA on TNT his belief that a Derrick Rose contract to the LaMarcus Aldridge team would make sense.
"I look at Derrick Rose and I say, 'What's the best fit for him?' You know, player-wise and the way he's playing right now. I wouldn't be surprised if [it's] San Antonio," he explained.
Meanwhile, Derrick Rose himself earlier shared his desire to be in a winning team. In contrast to his previous statements regarding the importance of earning a huge salary for his family, the New York Knicks star now talks about going to a team where he can be "at peace" and "happy."
"Not even thinking money," admitted Derrick Rose. He added, "I've got more than enough money saved. If I stopped playing basketball now, I'll be all right. I want to win. I want to be happy and feel at peace with myself wherever I'm at. But being at the negotiating table, you never know. I'm not going to negotiate with people where money is the No. 1 thing I'm asking for. I want to win."
