The Miami Heat surprised the league by clawing their way into the NBA playoffs this season even without Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh leading the team. With young leaders in Hassan Whiteside and Goran Dragic, the Justise Winslow squad aims to go back to their glory days - the same period when LeBron James pushed the team to earn back-to-back championships. Will a Paul George contract be the solution to Pat Riley's problems?
The Indiana Pacers and Paul George are anticipated to head to a divorce soon with the NBA All-Star reportedly looking for a new home elsewhere in the league. Among the teams speculated to be interested in the talented player are the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. However, many believe that the Miami Heat are the serious contenders for a Paul George contract this offseason.
"I'm pissed. At this point in the season, you don't have games like this, being up four with under a minute and letting an opponent come in and beat you, especially a young team ... You don't give that up. It's a very frustrating loss," shared Paul George following the Indiana Pacers' loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
He added, "There's no urgency, no sense of urgency, no winning pride. This locker room is just not pissed off enough... We should have a professional approach, man... As a team, we've got to have a grit and we've got to own up, man up."
Rumors are rife that a Paul George contract could be won by the NBA team that could offer the most stable roster and determined group of players in the lineup. In the past season, the rise of Hassan Whiteside from the D-league had been regarded as one of the most inspiring stories. With the center taking over the reins, the Miami Heat transformed into a new team capable of moving forward even without their old hero, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Will this be the new home for a Paul George contract?
"We feel there's something special about this group. We believe in that energy, that karma. Because we went through so many tough games, we developed some toughness," said Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat.
At this point, no official comment has been made on the possibility of a Paul George contract to the Miami Heat. However, fans of the Hassan Whiteside team are eager to see the Indiana Pacers star work hand in hand with Goran Dragic and the rest of the squad.
