Rumors are rife that the New England Patriots are actively shopping the Jimmy Garoppolo contract this offseason. With the impeccable leadership and performance of Tom Brady in the past years, the Rob Gronkowski team seems to be more intent in getting a better shot at the NFL drafts than in keeping the younger quarterback.
"Garoppolo can't afford to stay in New England another three years... because they're not going to pay him, either. They're not paying Brady an (exorbitant) amount of money. How much do you think they're going to pay Garoppolo to be the backup?" noted Cris Carter of the quarterback's position.
He added, "That's why, I believe, they're going to trade him before the draft, or right after the draft if a team doesn't get their quarterback."
At the moment, no official comment has been given by the parties tagged in this NFL rumor. The New York Giants, which had been bombarded with Eli Manning retirement questions, explained that they remain confident in their veteran quarterback's abilities.
"You can't beat age," said Giants co-owner Steve Tisch of Eli Manning. "I think it's certainly in the back of everybody's mind, including Eli's. There's no urgency, there's no panic, but I think if you're a responsible owner, responsible GM, you've got to start thinking about it."
