The Baltimore Ravens are anticipated to become legitimate Super Bowl contenders next NFL season with Joe Flacco looking more ready than ever to take on the likes of the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers. However, the Jimmy Smith team appears to be searching for one more piece to complete their game plan. Will a Blaine Gabbert contract be the answer to this concern?
The San Francisco 49ers and Blaine Gabbert had a difficult relationship marred by the issues brought Colin Kaepernick in the team. With the two quarterbacks earlier competing for the starter role, Chip Kelly eventually leaned more on Kap to lead the team over the journeyman. As a current NFL free agent looking for his next football home, fans believe that a Blaine Gabbert contract would eventually be announced in the Baltimore Ravens.
Rumors are spreading that the Baltimore Ravens are looking for a backup quarterback for Joe Flacco next NFL season. While their veteran leader remains the center of their team, the Jimmy Smith team intends to make sure not to overwork their quarterback. Given the reliability of Blaine Gabbert to step in even in the middle of the season for the main man of the team, as shown in his San Francisco 49ers performance, the free agent might be the best option for Baltimore Ravens right now.
"We need a backup quarterback, certainly," admitted John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens’ plans this offseason. He added, “[T]here are other veteran guys out there. The draft will definitely be part of that. We need a quality backup quarterback."
These statements were issued in relation to the questions bombarding other NFL teams regarding their starting quarterbacks. While the Baltimore Ravens are open to adding another one in their roster, the team also assured the public that Joe Flacco will remain as their starting quarterback.
"We have a championship-caliber quarterback," explained Harbaugh. "We have a guy we can go win with. We have a guy that's capable of carrying a football team and has done it in the past, and we need to do everything we can to put a football team around our championship-caliber quarterback. … [T]he No. 1 piece we have in place is the most important piece, and that's the quarterback."
What do you think? Should the Baltimore Ravens sign a Blaine Gabbert contract this season? Will the former San Francisco 49ers star be a good addition to support Joe Flacco?
