The Tony Romo contract drama has practically everyone in the Houston Texans locker room and front office be anxious to see how things turn out in the end. Since the Dallas Cowboys seem to be having a difficult time assessing the situation and finding ways to reconcile the issues, the JJ Watt team appears to be looking elsewhere for their own solutions. Hence, a Ryan Fitzpatrick contract may be in the works in the Tom Savage squad soon.
The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans have yet to officially comment on the Tony Romo contract issue. Earlier this year, the veteran quarterback has declared his intention to step aside and let Dak Prescott take on the leadership role for the Dez Bryant team. While he admitted to seeing this as the best move for the Zek Elliot squad, the quarterback insisted that he still aims to continue his career in the gridiron. These statements later on sparked countless NFL trade rumors with the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears tagged in the speculations.
However, the most widely talked about possibility is a Tony Romo contract to the Houston Texans. At this point though, the Dallas Cowboys seem to be wary of going through with the deal. With the clock ticking and the offseason training for other teams already in full swing, rumors are rife that the JJ Watt squad is looking for an alternative. Will this entail a Ryan Fitzpatrick contract?
The former New York Jets star angered a lot of fans when he staged a hold out before signing his contract last season as he demanded higher pay for his services. Since the Geno Smith team later on agreed to his demands, expectations soared when the embattled quarterback stepped in the gridiron. However, fans and the entire organization were disappointed by his leadership and performance. This led to his release from the NFL team.
"The most noticeable issue facing Fitzpatrick is his poor interception rate. It isn't so much that the volume of interceptions is off the charts, but when you factor in his low number of attempts compared to QBs who have thrown a similar number of picks, his rate is downright alarming," noted Hank Gargiulo of ESPN of the quarterback. He added, "Another area where Fitzpatrick is down big from 2015 is his performance while pressured."
With the quarterback shortage in the league, the Houston Texans are said to be targeting a cheap Ryan Fitzpatrick contract since only a handful of teams seem to be remotely interested in signing the former New York Jets star.
