CCM artists Amy Grant and Gary Chapman have said they are "so proud" of their daughter, Gloria Mills Chapman, for selflessly donating a kidney to her best friend, Kathryn Dudley.
According to the Tennessean, Grant's oldest daughter, who goes by Millie, donated her kidney to her best friend earlier this week. The 27-year-old - who inspired the 1991 hit "Baby Baby" - was paid tribute to on social by her parents.
"This is my oldest daughter, Gloria Mills Chapman," Chapman, Millie's father and Amy's first husband, wrote above a picture of the young woman in a January 23 Facebook post. "Tomorrow morning she is donating a kidney to her best friend, Kathryn. They've known each other their entire lives and when Kathryn was in need, turns out Millie was a perfect match. I'm so proud of her, words fail me. Please say a prayer for them both and trust, with me, that they are in His hands."
In a Facebook message shared Thursday, Grant's team said the surgery was a success and said that both women were in recovery Tuesday evening.
"From Team Amy -- we've been a little quiet these past few weeks after a non-stop Christmas season, but we wanted to share this news with all of you. We are so proud of Millie's selfless act of friendship and are grateful that both girls are doing well after yesterday's surgeries..," reads a message posted on Grant's Facebook page.
Grant's manager posted a photo of the singer in the hospital's waiting room Tuesday with the caption: "Grateful momma bear to hear surgery went well."
Following the surgery, Chapman posted on Facebook: "Millie is out of surgery and everything is looking good. She'll be hurting for awhile but healing is underway. Kat is in recovery as well. Thank you all for your prayers and kindness. God is good."
Millie's stepsister and Vince Gill's daughter Jenny Gill also posted a picture with balloons that spelled out 'kidney.' This is my step sister Millie (right) and her best friend Kathryn (left)," she wrote. "Millie is donating one of her kidneys to Kathryn tomorrow morning. A true act of love and I'm in awe of her. I'm asking for all your love, good thoughts and prayers for them both along with all the staff at the hospital who will be taking care of them. It's hard to put into words how amazed I am by her kindness."
