After speculations on Command & Conquer's comeback since it was scrapped out in the market in 2013, rumors are in for Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 being released for Virtual Reality (VR) headsets.
Rumors started when Unreal Engine 4 developer Adam Horvath posted a video of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 played on a VR set. Horvath produced the VR version himself and fans have since raved for the game after seeing the clip, which has turned Command and Conquer 2D characters into 3D ones.
Fans are happy with the video post, with comments ranging from "Throwing my hat in for testing!" to "Awesome concept proof and great overall quality for the concept. Made my day!"
However, Electronic Arts (EA), the last producer of the Command & Conquer series, is not happy. On a letter statement, the company addresses Horvath's actions as inappropriate:
Dear Adam,
Thank you for your interest in Electronic Arts Inc. EA appreciates the passion that players like you have for our games, and we're always excited to see the creativity that comes from our community. While we appreciate your enthusiasm for our Command & Conquer: Red Alert games, we are unable to authorize your request to distribute a remake VR version of our Red Alert 2 game, regardless of whether it is commercial. We greatly respect our fans and hope this response does not diminish your interest in our games.

Some speculate that should Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 be released on VR, two HTC Vive controllers will be needed to properly execute the game. One controller will be used for selecting and building units, while the other will be for pointing directions and placing things on the map. Because Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, like any strategy game, is heavy on mouse-and-keyboard use, using a VR set will tremendously transform how the game is played.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 has high ratings on Metacritic's board at 84%. Despite its success, along with the other 17 games in the Command & Conquer series, the series was shut down as a result of "corporate shenanigans," as one Victory Games employee says. Victory Games is the first developer of the game for Microsoft Windows.
It is not yet clear whether Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 will be released on VR, yet alone the Command & Conquer series brought back in the market.
