iPhone 8 Rumors, Release Date: Mockup Could be An Uncanny Resemblance To The Real Deal

Apple is certainly making the most out of the Galaxy Note 7’s sudden halt in production after a failed recall exercise where the replacement handsets continued to suffer from the same spontaneous combustion issue -- and their iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have certainly picked up their fair share of bouquets and accolades. Well, now that the excitement surrounding both handsets have passed, not to mention the release of iOS 10.1 that allows one to take full advantage of the dual cameras at the back of the iPhone 7 Plus, it is time to look forward to the next iPhone, which would in all probability be known as the iPhone 8.

Yes, it might be seen as premature to do so by some, but after taking all things into consideration, is there any other reason not to? After all, there is a precedence for gazing far into the future, as the new iPhone design was leaked a few months prior to the iPhone 7’s unveiling in September this year. The iPhone 7 was not new at all in terms of design, and it did not look too different from its predecessor, although whatever that lies underneath the hood have certainly obtain its fair share of overhaul work.

As for the next generation iPhone 8, just how do you think Cupertino would like their flagship smartphone to look like? We do not really know, but if they were to stick to the same design and replace the hardware within, then it would probably not sell as well -- after all, users do not want something that works great, they would also want it to look good. Imagine a new BMW 3 Series that comes with a totally new engine and revolutionary brakes, amidst other engineering marvels within, only to look the same on the outside for a couple of generations. Granted, smartphone users might be more forgiving that petrolheads, but you get my drift.

The iPhone 8, if launched in 2017, would be the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone’s launch, which would mean that this is a big, big milestone year. Hence, it would make perfect sense if the iPhone 8 were to come in an all new design. Would we be able to see a glass back this time around as opposed to aluminum? Perhaps. How about throwing in a spanking new OLED display with curved sides? That would certainly seem old if you were to place it with the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (which is now one generation earlier, and by the time the iPhone 8 rolls out, it would be a two generation old design), but when you slap an Apple logo on even a slice of bread, folks will still drool over it.

This would mean doing away with the home button as well as now staple Touch ID fingerprint scanner, while introducing a new optical scanner (which was a pretty nifty idea on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7), and we also expect to see Apple related patent filings make their way from paper to hardware.

Check out the iPhone 8 mockup in a YouTube video above, thanks to the folks over at ConceptsiPhone. This particular design is the brainchild of a certain Veniamin Geskin. What do you think of it?
