Android Nougat is now rolling out on many different smartphones across the globe. The update is currently in testing phase in some gadgets, and will become available on majority of handsets soon. For those who are still waiting for their taste of Nougat, here's the latest update on Android 7.0 release.
Let's start with Xiaomi devices. Chinese tech firm Xiaomi had a pretty bad reputation when it comes to Android updates. Last year, the company took more than five months to release the Android Marshmallow on its devices.
After the Marshmallow became available on October 2015, the Mi 4, Mi 3 and Mi Note received it in the first week of April 2016. With that release schedule, we advise users of Xiaomi handsets to have more patience as their Nougat might become available on March or April 2017.
When Google released the Android Nougat on August 22, it landed first on latest Nexus devices. It has been more than two months since the release of the new OS, so we expect majority of Nexus phones have the update by now.
The first batch of Nexus devices that received the update are Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One). The roll-out of Nougat to Nexus devices is slow and gradual, so it may take time to become available on all handsets.
For Sony, the company's mobile team confirmed the Android 7.0 Nougat will coming to latest Xperia X and Xperia Z gadgets. Users of Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, and Xperia X Performance should expect an OTA update notification in the next few months.
As always, the latest X-series smartphones will receive the update first before the older models of Z-series.
Meanwhile, Korea Times reported back in August that the Android 7.0 Nougat will land on Samsung devices in "two to three months". On November, it will be third month since the report was published, so it means users of latest Samsung smartphones will receive the update soon.
In a GFXBench post, we spotted a Samsung Galaxy S7 running on Android Nougat. The post may just confirm that the update is really underway.
Smartphones users can also check their device to know if the Nougat update is now available for them. Just go to "Settings", select "About phone" or "About device, and then look for "Software update".
