While Netflix gives viewers the opportunity to watch an entire series in just one sitting, the problem is that waiting for next season is very tiresome. For those who already finished all episodes of Luke Cage Season 1, it could be more than a year before the bulletproof hero comes back. Luke Cage Season 2 could become available on 2019.
In a report from Mic, Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos said the entertainment provider plans to release two Marvel series per year. In 2017, they will release the first season of Iron Fist and the epic superhero mash up The Defenders. Then, 2018 will see the launch of Jessica Jones Season 2 and Daredevil Season 3.
With these release schedules, Luke Cage Season 2 might become available on 2019 at the earliest. However, viewers won't have to wait that long to see Cage again in action. He is expected appear next year in The Defenders series, which is Netflix's version of Avengers-esque superhero team-up. Cage joins Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones in the series.
Interestingly, viewers would see the meeting of Cage and Jones again. It's been awhile since they are together on one screen, so it should be worth the wait.
For the storyline of Luke Cage season 2, Inverse said it might feature the legendary Heroes for Hire team. In the first season of the series, Cage made a lot references to the team. After meeting Iron Fist in The Defenders, it is highly likely that Luke goes on to start the superhero organization.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that say Misty Knight (Simone Missick) will become vigilante next season. At the end of Season 1, she's in Harlem's Paradise dressed very similarly to her comic character, and this means she is transitioning into a vigilante superhero. In addition, now that Mariah (Alfre Woodard) is on the loose, Misty might decide to take justice into her own hands.
As of now, Netflix officials and showrunners have not yet announced if there will be a Season 2 of Luke Cage. However, it would be a bad move not to bring the show back due to its immense popularity. With its huge followers, it was the first series to ever crash the Netflix site. It is also the series that brought a range of discussions about police brutality and gentrification.
