A lot of interesting things are going on with the latest version of Android, otherwise known as Android 7.0, Android N, or simply Nougat. Motorola was pretty good about getting Android M (also known as Android 6.0 or Marshmallow), and there is a strong possibility that the newest version of Android 7.0 could come sooner than expected. Not only that, Android 7.1 could come during the initial rollout. This is what is known about Android 7.0 Nougat for Motorola Moto E, Moto G, Moto X, and Moto Z Series.
According to The Verge, Motorola has actually published a full list of the 15 phones that are eligible for the upgrade for Android 7.0. It looks like there has been some missing on the list, like the Moto G 2015 and the Moto M3 Power.
- Moto G (4th Gen)
- Moto G Plus (4th Gen)
- Moto G Play (4th Gen)
- Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen)
- Moto X Style
- Moto X Play
- Moto X Force
- Droid Turbo 2
- Droid Maxx 2
- Moto Z
- Moto Z Droid
- Moto Z Force Droid
- Moto Z Play
- Moto Z Play Droid
- Nexus 6
It is said that Android Nougat is coming out later this quarter, so that means that it should be out before Christmas. Then there is a question of what Motorola devices will get it first, and it is predicted to be the Moto Z and the Moto G4.
Of course, we need to make this more complicated, because not only is there going to be Android 7.0, but there are already plans for Android 7.1. There isn't any word on when that is coming, so it could be the same time that Nougat rolls out. In other words, there could a rollout of Android 7.1 when Nougat rolls out completely, according to Pocket-Lint.
According to a separate article from Pocket Lint, Motorola devices receive Android updates a lot faster than some other devices, and this is thanks to the minimal additions that Motorola puts over the raw Android software. Last year, Android 6.0 appeared on Motorola Moto devices sometime in December 2015. Gotta Be Mobile reports that the company has every intention of delivering fast and timely updates to its users.
So a release date by the end of this year or the beginning of this year (at the latest) appears to be in the cards for Motorola. However, it is possible that Android 7.0 (or Android 7.1) could come earlier to Motorola devices, as Android Nougat is already on Google's Nexus devices that were released last year. Yes, there is a lot going on with Android, and it is a good sign that Android upgrades are coming sooner, and could come to Motorola.
