The Cyrus family has always had the spotlight since the days of Hannah Montana. There has been a lot of talk about Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter Miley after her performance at the VMA, when she basically changed her image overnight. However, there has now been a less controversial and very tender moment shown on Instagram as Miley and her father perform what Miley calls a "magic jam sesh". The reasons for the posting have very little to do with self-promotion of the two musicians as artists, but actually to promote Suicide Prevention Month and acceptance.
According to Billboard, Miley Cyrus posted a very private duet between her and her father of one of Billy Ray Cyrus' classic songs, "How've Ya Been". Miley plays on the piano, while Billy Ray plays the guitar. Apparently, this was the second song that Billy Ray ever wrote, and it was "years ago after his best friend took his own life because of discrimination in his community".
Miley ends her posting with "love, love, love", and honestly, there is something really good about it. In fact, there has so much controversy about Miley in the past few years that something like this reminds us that the Cyrus family is human and cares about important issues of suicide prevention. Miley Cyrus also stated in her Instagram post that Suicide Prevention Awareness Month just ended, but "never should the fight for love and acceptance for all".
There has been a lot of issues with the Cyrus family as Billy Ray Cyrus has expressed regret for moving to Los Angeles in order to do the Disney channel show Hannah Montana. Billy Ray once since in an interview with GQ Magazine a few years ago that he regretted enlisting her then-teenage girl in the "Hannah Montana Show" and also admitted to having made grave errors as parent.
"It [Hannah Montana] destroyed my family. I'd take it back in a second" he said. "For my family to be here and just be everybody okay, safe and sound and happy and normal, would have been fantastic. Heck, yea. I'd erase it all in a second if I could."
