The rollout of Android Nougat for Nexus devices started on August 22. It has been a month since Google released the update, so we expect many Nexus phones should receive it by now. But if you still haven't got an OTA notification, here's the latest about Android 7.0 Nougat release date on Nexus phones.
The latest Nexus smartphones are usually the first batch of gadgets that receive new Android firmware. In the case of Android Nougat, it was initially launched to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One).
Take note that the OTA (Over-the-Air) update typically takes few weeks before reaching all devices. But once the roll out starts, all confirmed devices will definitely get the new firmware. So users of the devices mentioned above should wait for OTA notification to install the new firmware. For those who want to see if their device is included in the roll out, check the factory images in this link.
For Google's Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 (LTE) tablet, they will finally get the Android Nougat update after weeks of waiting. Android Police reported the new OS for the said devices was released on Sep. 15. With that timeline, we expect majority of Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 users should receive the update by now.
Meanwhile, for owners of Nexus 5 smartphone, they are not eligible for Android Nougat update. The Nexus 5 was an excellent device three years ago, but it does not have enough processing power to run the new apps of the Nougat.
For Android One devices, they usually receive new Android system at the same time with Nexus devices. So users of Android One smartphones should expect to receive an OTA update notification in the next few weeks.
Getting a Nexus smartphone is a god way to immediately get the latest Android updates from Google. In addition, Nexus smartphone offers the raw, pure version of Android operating system.
Android Nougat is the successor of outgoing Android Marshmallow. The new OS offers more than 250 new features, according to Time. One of the firmware's new features is the Split-Screen Mode, which lets users open two apps simultaneously on one screen.
