The sequel for 2003's Beyond Good & Evil might be released very soon. Ubisoft's game designer Michel Ancel recently posted Beyond Good & Evil 2 posters in Instagram, suggesting the sequel is now underway. Now, here's what is currently known about Beyond Good & Evil 2 release date, update and rumors on the web.
Ancel, who directed the critically-acclaimed King Kong video game, posted a coulple of concept art in Instagram this week. Interestingly, he added a caption on the photos that writes "Somewhere in System 4... Thanks #ubisoft for making this possible." Then Ubisoft's French Twitter account linked Ancel's posts and advised gamers to stay tuned for more updates with winking emoji.
For those who can't recall, System 4 is the place where the first Beyond Good & Evil took place.
One of the images posted on Ancel's Instagram account is an anthropomorphic shark. Gamers may remember this character was featured in the original game. The most notable shark in that game was Rufus, a hovercraft racer that visited the Akuda bar.
The second Beyond Good & Evil 2 artwork from Ancel is intriguing. It shows a bearded male engineer-type character which fans believe the father of Jade, the original game's protagonist. In addition, there's a young pig sitting on the shoulders of the man, which many speculate a younger version of Pey'j.
The second artwork was posted on Instagram on September 27.
At this year's E3, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said Beyond Good & Evil 2 is now under development, as per report from GameSpot. However, he did not announce the exact release date of the sequel.
Guillemot explained the launch window of the game is difficult to say, because the development team is still busy making other titles. He added Ancel is also working on the squeal, but he has to finish two more projects.
Nonetheless, the confirmation of Guillemot and new artworks of Ancel are good signs that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is underway. Some gaming analysts predict the sequel might become available in the second quarter of 2017.
The first Beyond Good & Evil 2 follows the adventure of Jade, a photojournalist who uncovered a vast alien conspiracy. Because of the game's huge fan base, Ubisoft released a remastered version for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011.
