Gadget lovers might see Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 on tech stores in spring 2017. Based on latest reports, the hybrid tablet will have a better processor, clearer screen and Windows 10 Redstone 2. Here's everything you need to know about Surface Pro 5 release date, specs and rumors on the web.
The reason behind Surface Pro 5's spring 2017 release is two major upgrades: Intel's Kaby Lake processor and Windows 10 Redstone 2. These features are expected to be installed in the gadget but they are not yet available as of now.
The second major update of Windows 10 will roll out in March 2017. The Redstone 2 would be installed in Surface Book 2, the next Surface Phone, and Surface Pro 5. According to Windows Central, the operating system will have the new "Office Hub" feature, which will tightly integrate Office 365 and Windows 10 for quick access in documents, emails and calendar.
For the new processor, Intel officials say the 14-nanometer Kaby Lake processors won't come out until December 2016. Hence, the spring 2017 launching of Pro 5 would give Microsoft developers ample time to test the CPU's compatibility to the tablet.
PC World reports the Kaby Lake is Intel's 7th Generation Core chip. It boasts 14-nanometer structure and is design for VR mode, productivity and 4K gaming.
For other specs of the Pro 5, it could have at least 7 hours of battery life to become competitive against iPad Pro and other leading devices in the market. The current Pro 4 received complaints about its short battery life, and Microsoft may address the problem by upgrading the battery of the next Pro tablet.
The 2-in-1 tablet may also have a rechargeable Surface Pen that can be charged wirelessly with a magnet.
Interestingly, Christian Post suggests the Pro 5 will two versions to attract more buyers. The low-end version of the tablet may have a Core i3 processor, while the high-end variant may have a Core i7.
The price of the tablet is rumored to start at $900 for the standard models. For the high-end models, they may be priced for $1,600 each.
As always, these Pro-5 related rumors should be taken with a proverbial pinch of salt. Microsoft has not yet confirmed the rumored spring 2017 launching of the device. We'll keep you posted if the company makes an official announcement.
