Guard Klay Thompson and forward Andre Iguodala may be shipped to Denver Nuggets to make room for Kevin Durant. It is reported the salary cap space of the Golden State Warriors is now limited and some players have to make sacrifice.
With the inclusion of Kevin and Stephen Curry's salary increase, the salaray cap space of the Golden State Warriors is now very tight, according to Sporting News.
In the upcoming season, Durant will make $26,540,100 with a player option worth $27,734,405 for 2017-18 season. That figures are his maximum salary for the next two seasons, and it is highly he will renegotiate that amount after the season.
In addition to Durant's hefty salary, it is reported that Curry will be due for a big salary raise this season. Currently, the Warriors point guard makes $12 million per season, and that figure could increase by 20 percent.
In order to squeeze in Durant, the Warriors have to renounce Thompson and Iguodala, who earn $16 million and $11 million per season, respectively.
Furthermore, Fansided reported Thompson could be the odd-man out as the Warriors will definitely retain Draymond Green to guard the post. Green's presence under the rim is vital to the team's championship in 2015. Offensively, he can also drive to the basket and shoot three-point.
Looking beyond court performance, it has been widely known that Thompson has unselfish personality. Throughout his basketball career, he is not the type of player that seeks limelight. In an interview with CSN, the 26-year-old guard said, "I'm not going to judge my performance of numbers or anything. If we get wins, it really doesn't matter, man. It's all good."
As for the replacement of Thompson and Iguodala, Denver Nuggets could send forward Kenneth Faried and guard Jameer Nelson. Sports analysts say Faried is a great addition to the Warriors. The 6'8" power forward is a big boost to the team's defense and he can grab rebounds if Durant and Curry miss on their shots.
On the other hand, Jameer Nelson is a veteran point guard and could become a reliable backup for Curry.
For now, all of the trading rumors mentioned above are not yet confirmed. We are still waiting for the official announcement from the Golden State Warriors and Denver Nuggets.
