After Nexus devices received their Android Nougat last August, now is the time for selected Sony devices to get their taste of Google's latest firmware. As always, the latest gadgets will get the Nougat first, and then it will roll out to older devices.
In a blog post, Sony's mobile team confirmed Android 7.0 Nougat will be released to Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia X Performance, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, and Xperia Z5. Owners of the said devices should expect an OTA update notification very soon.
The mobile team of Sony is reportedly working hard to bring the latest Android update to many devices. Also, users should be excited as Sony adds new features & apps to the firmware to make it more functional.
It is expected that Sony's newest X-series will get the Android 7.0 Nougat first before the older models like the Z-series. The exact release date of the firmware is not yet announced, but it will land on the majority of Sony devices before the year ends.
Interestingly, as a way to apologize for year-long delay of Android 6.0 Marshmallow in some devices, Sony might release the Android Nougat sooner rather than later. The OS beta testing has been made available to some Sony smartphones, so the firmware could come early to Xperia devices.
Surprisingly, Sony Xperia Z3 got the developer edition of the Nougat firmware, but oddly, the handset won't get the full Nougat update. For Sony Z3 Tablet, Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3, they will also not get the OS update as they are released more than two years ago.
Take note that each phone manufacturer takes the time to install some tweaks in the new software. In the case of Android Marshmallow, some devices still don't receive the update even though Nougat now is available.
For gadget lovers who want to use the latest software, the best way is to get a Nexus device. Owning a Nexus device is also a great way to experience the raw, pure version of the newest Android system.
