The first DLC of Dark Souls 3 will be released next month. Based on the released trailer, it will come with new enemies, new weapons and new features for the game's competitive multiplayer mode. First of all, publisher Bandai Namco warned that the gameplay trailer for Ashes of Ariandel DLC is filled with spoilers. With that being the case, we advise Dark of Souls 3 players to proceed with caution beyond this point. The trailer revealed some of the "surprise" features of the upcoming DLC.
One of the new locations in the Ashes of Ariandel is a vast snowy field, which looks pretty eerie and scary. It's an environment type that has never been featured in Dark Souls 3, and it is much bigger region than most environments in the base game, giving players plenty of area to explore.
In an interview with Polygon, Dark Souls 3 director and From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki said the new setting is aimed to give "gothic flavor" to the game. He also described it as "very mysterious" and "unique."
Aside from new locations, the trailer showcases heart-pounding battles between the main character and new enemies. There's a giant axe-wielding creature who looks very tough. Also, there's a macabre-looking monster that crawls and players can kill it by using fire. The last portion of the trailer is the most intriguing. It gives players a glimpse at what seems to be the most powerful boss, a stone-wielding gargantuan creature.
Miyazaki revealed there are two boss battles in the DLC. The first boss fight begins by defeating a strong human character, who seems to be defending the wolf. Once the player kills him, the much more powerful and terrifying wolf takes his place.
According to PC Gamer, the Ashes of Ariandel DLC comes with four full armor sets, four new spells and 15 new weapons. One of the new weapons include a new spear type that can be used from a distance during battle.
Dark Souls 3's Ashes of Ariandel expansion will be released on Oct. 25, 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. The second DLC of the game will be launched in "early 2017." The two DLC packs will be priced $14.99 individually or $24.99 for those who have Season Pass.
