When it comes to Android, Sasmung is a champion of it. Its devices are proud to bear the Android label, and when there is an update, Samsung users are the ones that demand it. Right now, most of the newer devices have Android 6.0 (also known as Android M or just Marshmallow), but the big talk now is of the latest version of Android 7.0 (also known as Android N or Nougat). What Samsung Devices Will Receive Android Nougat?
So far, we know that the Galaxy Note 7 will be the pioneer device to run Android 7.0, as reported by Yibada. What is after it or released at the same time is Nougat on the Samsung Galaxy S7, the S7 Edge. That will be the first wave of it with it, and then there will be the second wave on Samsung S6, the S6 Edge, the S6 Edge +, as well as the S5 (possibly later).
Android Nougat on Samsung Release Date
So when will it be arriving on Samsung devices? Considering what happened last year with the release of Android Marshmallow although the official launch was September 2015, it took until March of 2016 before it showed up on the Galaxy Note 5.
Given that sort of timetable, we should be seeing the Nougat update on Samsung devices in late February or March of 2017. Considering that Google Nexus devices and even the LG V11 are starting to get some Nougat goodness earlier than normal, it is possible that Samsung could be receiving their Nougat update a lot sooner than possible.
Samsung Nougat Update Coming Earlier than Usual?
So, if Samsung really wanted to give its users a surprise for the holiday, then should really work on getting Android Nougat out during Q4 2016. Who knows if that is even possible, but it feels like Android updates are starting to come out earlier. Why in the world would Samsung, who has one of the biggest population of Android devices, not have Android out earlier for its users. Right now, it is Google's own Nexus who usually gets it first, and then LG is the close second. Is Samsung content in being in second place with its Korean competitor?
If you own a "newer" Samsung devices are encouraged to check your "Settings" and "System Updates" to see if Marshmallow is ready to download OTA. This upgrade might not be ready depending on your U.S. carrier, as it has been shown that certain carriers receive the Android upgrade before others, with no real pattern. The same goes for Nougat, when it finally comes out.
