The Green Bay Packers are taking no chances at injury in their Super Bowl run this season. Without Jordy Nelson last year, the Eddie Lacy team struggled to keep their standing in the league. Hence, it comes as no surprise that they plan to get reliable and experienced backups to support the core of their team. This includes a Michael Vick contract to secure that the quarterback post is secured in case Aaron Rodgers falls victim to injuries this NFL season.
The former Philadelphia Eagles star had been openly campaigning for himself ever since the offseason. With a lukewarm return courtesy of the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Michael Vick free agency train has seen him linked to the likes of the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. However, reports point to a lucrative Michael Vick contract with the Green Bay Packers.
"It's a long season, though. A lot of stuff can happen," commented Aaron Rodgers when discussing the future of Jordy Nelson with the Green Bay Packers.
Does this mean that Aaron Rodgers is also open to finding a veteran backup to lend him support in the season? Will a Michael Vick contract be the answer for the Green Bay Packers? Can the Philadelphia Eagles star prove his worth in the gridiron as the backup for their lead quarterback?
The answers remain uncertain. As of today, no official comment has been given by any of the parties involved. Michael Vick is still a free agent. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are busy looking into making this season the year for a successful Super Bowl run.
"I want to dedicate 2016 to football as I'm doing now. It takes a lot of dedication to do what I'm doing and come out here and work out as hard as I can," said Michael Vick in an earlier interview. He added, "It's tough not being signed, but I have optimism. I just have to be ready. I'm putting everything I have into this because I love it."
The veteran quarterback further shared, "I'm blessed to be 36 and still be able to move the way I do. I'm trying to use that to my advantage, keep an edge. I'm trying to make sure I'm covering my bases on everything. It's never too late to learn new things."
What do you think? Should the Green Bay Packers splurge on a Michael Vick contract to make sure Aaron Rodgers gets a reliable backup this season?
