Perhaps you haven't quite heard of The Maze Runner, but it is one of these popular Young Adult (YA) novel series that takes place in a dystopia, with adolescents as the main characters. Yes, James Dashner's series has sales that can be compared with The Hunger Games as well as Divergent, and it stands to reason that they would be made into movies. The Maze Runner and its sequel, The Scorch Trials, have done very well in theaters, but an accident on set for the third film, The Death Cure, resulted in a delay. However, there has been recent news about The Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure, and how the star Dylan O'Brien has recovered from the tragic accident on set.
According to CinemaBlend, the third film in the film series has been finally taken off the backburner and will resume production this winter. It will apparently resume production in February 2017, when it was expected to resume filming far earlier on May 9.
If you are not familiar with what has happened to the star of the film, Dylan O' Brien fell from a set that resembles the back of a train, and was struck by a car. His injuries were very severe, and so the third film was put on hold. He will make a full recovery from it, and this actor is actually known for doing his own stunts. If you watch the first two The Maze Runner films, you will see the actor really throw himself into the works.
Now, if you are not familiar with the premise of the entire series, it has an intriguing story about a group of young men who are trapped in a maze. Then a new kid named Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) comes in, and he has no memory of his former life. The center of this maze has become this community, but within the twisted walls are monsters who want to kill them. The first film ended with the group essentially making it out of the maze, which began The Scorch Trials. In that film, it ended with Thomas planning to rescue his friends from WCKD.
The Death Cure will probably be the final movie in the series. The book series has a five books, with the last two being prequel novels with The Kill Order and The Fever Code.
Originally, The Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure was supposed to be released into theaters on February 2017, but it looks like the injury of Dylan O'Brien caused a whole one year delay for a release date for January 12, 2018.
